Music on the Levels receives grant from Parish Council and announces details of February concert

Westonzoyland Parish Council has confirmed that it is to grant-aid Music on the Levels for the series of tea-time concerts running from January through to June.
Alan Hurford, Clerk to Westonzoyland Parish Council comments, ‘Westonzoyland Parish Council is delighted to be able to support this excellent series of concerts that will add so much to the life of the village.’

An earlier grant from Sedgemoor District Council was awarded in December 2015.
For the second in the series of free tea-time concerts, on Sunday 28 February at 3pm, Music on the Levels presents the Friendly Spirits Swing Quintet featuring swinging music from the 30s and 40s with tunes made famous by the likes of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw and other favourites from the swing era.

The concert series starts on 31 January with A Little Night Music, a varied programme of music inspired by the night, ranging from classic to pop, jazz and songs from the shows, performed by the Paradis Palm Court Trio.

Thanks to the grants from Sedgemoor District Council and Westonzoyland Parish Council the concert are free to attend, although there is a modest charge for the sumptuous home-made teas that are available to enjoy while listening to the music.

The concerts are being held in the Church Hall on Westonzoyland’s Main Road, and all will start at 3pm. Seating is around tables, cabaret-style.
We are aiming for an informal atmosphere’, explains co-organiser, Ann Philcox, ‘and we are hoping to attract new people as well as those who have come to our concerts in the past.’ Further Sunday tea-time concerts are being planned offer a wide range of musical styles: Country Music on 3 April, Music with a Spring theme on 1 May, popular choral show tunes on 29 May, and Music Hall on 26 June.

There is no need to book; just turn up at the Church Hall in time to be seated by 3 pm. Doors open at 2.45 pm. Contact Ann Philcox on 01278 691438 akphilcox@btinternet.com for more information.
