Posted on 25th April, 2019 in News

Music on the Levels announces details of its free concert on Sunday 28 April 2019 at 3.30 pm in St Mary’s Church, Westonzoyland, presenting Scythia, a six-piece Bristol-based band.
Scythia plays an eclectic mix of Jazz, Blues, Funk and more.

Scythia

‘Expect beautiful vocal tones from our singer Shairon Lloyd, a buzzing horn section of trumpet and saxophone, alongside the steady grooving pulse of our rhythm section’, comments Michael Loader, their trumpeter and flugel horn player, ‘You’re likely to hear Route 66, Mercy Mercy, Take the A Train, Sharp Dressed Man, It Don’t Mean a Thing and Express Yourself, a mix of mainstream 50’s Jazz, more funky and something unexpected for every taste and every ear!’

Explaining the choice of name, they say, ‘The origin of the band name isn’t very deep or particularly meaningful but is derived from one of the band member’s ancestry – A Persian tribe called the Scythians however we prefer to pronounce the band name ‘Sky-the-ah’ as it sounds more ‘Jazz’ – we hope you don’t mind!’

The full line up is: Shairon Lloyd (vocals), Pete Neale (tenor and alto sax), Michael Loader (trumpet and flugel horn), Matt Bacon (keyboards), Spencer Westwood (electric bass) and JJ Shaw (drums).

The website http://www.scythiajazz.co.uk gives more information on the musicians and their backgrounds and here’s their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ScythiaJazz/
