Music on the Levels concert - Rough Round The Edges

The next free concert is on Sunday 26 June 2022 at 3 pm (refreshments from 2.15) in St Mary’s Church, Main Road, Westonzoyland, TA7 0EP with Rough Round The Edges.

Rough Round The Edges is a group of friends who have a shared love of music, this ranges from folk songs and tunes to classics like My Old Man’s a Dustman. The group performs with banjo, mandola, whistles, guitar, recorder, flute and percussion.

Rough Round the Edges has taken part in the Glastonbury Fringe, Night at the Abbey and the Lavender Fields, Axbridge. It has also played for Barn Dances and in a range of places including tents, a cow shed and even an inglenook fireplace.

Rough Round the Edges comprises: Andy Savage on 12-string guitar, vocals, 5-string banjo and harmonica; John Herbert- mandolin, mandola, tenor banjo flute, whistle and vocals; Kitty Herbert- fiddles; Suzie Williams- flute, whistles and keyboard; Louise Savage- percussion and descant recorder.

The multi-talented group draws on many traditions and experiences. Andy, the main vocalist and lead guitar, has a deep love of traditional folk songs and has written several beautiful songs in his own gentle style. John is a veteran of the Irish traditional music since the 60s and respects the style of The Dubliners and The Chieftains. A former teacher, Kitty is a dedicated musician taking inspiration from hearing Boys of Lough in 1998. Suzie, pleased to be back playing live music again, adds flute and whistles to her keyboard skills. In addition to providing percussion and sound effects, Louise renders beautiful melodies on her recorder.

Andy comments: ‘We are very happy to have been asked to play in Westonzoyland and are looking forward to being part of Music on the Levels.’

There are currently no statutory requirements with regard to Covid. However, In accordance with the government guidance that the pandemic is not yet over, Music on the Levels is retaining the informal booking system and requests that audiences observe sensible precautions as a courtesy to each other and to help provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Refreshments (tea, coffee, choice of cakes) are available at a modest charge from 2.15 pm until the start of the concert.

In order to help with the artists’ and other costs a raffle is held. In addition donations are encouraged. It costs an average of £300 to put on a concert.
